M43TUB19 Dieselähnliches Geräusch im warmen Leerlauf

  • Hello everyone, I'm new here, from Switzerland!

    I have a 316i 1.9 Compact with the M43TUB19 and 273,000 km.

When it is idling and the engine is warm (after 10 minutes of driving), it sounds like a diesel - it rattles quite a bit.

I've watched several videos of cars with hydraulic lifter noises, but none sound like mine.
A video of the noise is attached.

The tappets are clearly audible even with the windows open and an engine speed above 3000 rpm when gently accelerating. Above 4000 rpm, it sounds slightly like a TDI, again with very gentle acceleration. More throttle, and it sounds normal!

It is interesting to note that when the car is warm, it occasionally misfires when starting off, whether fast or slow.

The misfires only occur when starting from a standstill when it is warm; no problems at idle or at any other engine speed, even at full throttle

Any clues as to what might be causing this?

    Since it's a 316i 1.9, it doesn't have a DISA valve.

    Thanks!
